Anatomy in Song

ALL LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED
5-25-08

Sorry it's taken me a few days but this week has been a difficult one on multiple levels and I've been pulled in so many directions that I haven't been able to breathe.

So I don't know how everyone else feels about the two part season finale but I LOVED it! I love how everyone seemed to get their shit together in the end...George manned up and asked to take the test again, The Chief manned up and finally went home, Meredith manned up and faced her mommy issues head on and in turn FINALLY became extraordinary, Derek manned up and decided to stop fighting his love for Meredith (who didn't love her candle house?!?!), Bailey manned up and stopped bearing burdens that weren't hers to carry, Christina manned up and learned that sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and fight for what you want, Mark manned up and stepped down long enough to accept that Erica is a much bigger (and better) man for Callie than he could ever be, Alex manned up and let his guard down (yes, there's strength in making yourself vulnerable), Izzie manned up and stood up to him and Callie manned up and decided to let her heart guide her in the right direction for once...convention be damned!

And speaking of that, why is it so hard for people to admit to the world and even to themselves that love...whatever form it may take...is NEVER wrong? I wish I knew the answer to that and maybe one day I will but for now I'll just hope and pray that everyone comes around to my way of thinking some day.

And now for the best part of all...the music! I'm thinking I may at some point (as I've said in the past and have yet to follow through with) go back and relive the music of the past many seasons here in between now and the time the new season airs but given the fact that my hard drive met it's maker a few weeks ago it might prove difficult. I won't make any promises but we'll see. In the meantime, enjoy these songs...three of which are from some of my FAVORITE female artists making music today.

Adele - "Hometown Glory"

I've been meaning to make a proper post about Adele for over a year now...I swear I will in the weeks to come.

Bryn Christopher - "Quest"

Duffy - "Mercy"

Ida Maria - "Keep Me Warm"

Ingrid Michaelson - "Giving Up"

Jon Foreman - "The Cure For Pain"

Priscilla Ahn - "Dream"

The Rosewood Thieves - "Heavy Eyes"

And of course Coldplay's new track, "Death & All His Friends" isn't available yet so in its place I'm posting an oldie that I didn't have at the time but that I do have now and promised to post if I found it...

Calahan - "Pouring On The Gasoline"

And in case you missed any of the ending or like me just want to see it again:

Anatomy in Song

Why in the hell they don't have a photo still of Callie and Hahn with Sloane in the elevator is beyond me but I can't seem to find one and since that was THE moment of the night, I refuse to post any other photo. I just have time for the songs today so enjoy.

Also, as an aside, these links always seem to go so fast and I try to stay on top of renewing them but I'll be out of pocket most of the weekend so if they expire or reach capacity, hold tight and I'll re-up them on Monday.

LINKS UPDATED 5-19-08

Enjoy!

Alaska In Winter - "Your Red Dress"

Bon Iver - "The Wolves (Act I & II)"

Electrocute - "Uh Oh"

Joshua Radin & Ingrid Michaelson - "Sky"

The National - "About Today"

The Puppini Sisters - "Walk Like An Egyptian"

Big thanks to Fer for this...

“Now I'm in over my head, I’m in over my head over you.”

Even though I lost more music and photos than I care to divulge publicly for fear I may yet again spring an eye leak, one album that I’ve been really loving lately and that totally speaks to my “right song, right time” theory of life is the latest from the phenomenal Gemma Hayes, Hollow of Morning. This often-overlooked Irish songbird has one of my favorite voices and she seems to compliment everyone she works with.

I won’t go into grand details about the intricacies of each song or why I think she’s unique and special among her peers or the delicate reasons why this album is speaking to me so loudly right now mainly because I just don’t have the time but I did want to make the time to post a few tracks that I think are fantastic.

Gemma Hayes – “At Constant Speed”

I'm beginning to forget, I'm beginning to forget you
I just see an outline
I'm beginning to forget, I'm beginning to forget you
I hope that's alright

Gemma Hayes – “This Is What You Do To Me”

My tired eyes are like lonely stars
trying to find a little order in the chaos

Gemma Hayes – “In Over My Head”

Kept all the little things you wrote
take them with me where I go
Keeps the darkness from the door
Makes me happy

And here’s an oldie but goodie, one of my very favorite covers EVER, from Magnet’s 2004 release On Your Side...

Magnet & Gemma Hayes – “Lay Lady Lay”

UPDATED LINKS ONCE MORE FOR THE CHEAP SEATS 05-13-08

Awwwww...my boy Mraz is back this month with his latest release We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. I've been waiting patiently for a new album since the over-produced Mr. A-Z left me longing for the days of live recordings only and it's finally scheduled to drop on May 20th. I've been listening to it the better part of the day and a comment from a reader on a previous blog made me totally think of a duet on the album (of which there are two!) with Colbie Caillat that I really love. And so even though I hadn't intended on writing about it so soon, I decided what the hell...I might as well.

Enjoy these three new tracks from one of the sweetest, funniest guys you'll ever meet and grab the album when it drops on the 20th.

Jason Mraz with Colbie Caillat - "Lucky"

Jason Mraz with James Morrison - "Details In The Fabric"

And while this certainly isn't my favorite version of the song, it's one of my favorite songs on the album so here ya go...

Jason Mraz - "I'm Yours"

Anatomy in Song

For those who've been commenting and emailing me regarding last week's Grey's Anatomy music post, my apologies. I had the horrible fate of losing my hard drive and so it's been difficult to recover from all the files...both music and photos...that I lost. And, for the first time in a long time there were a few songs that I knew I didn't have regardless. But...I'd rather post SOMETHING for you than NOTHING since so many have reached out about it so here are the songs that I do have from last week and last night (even though I haven't watched either episode yet).

Enjoy!

Frightened Rabbit - Good Arms vs. Bad Arms

Jay Clifford - "Know When To Walk Away"

Katalyst - "See What You Feel"

Taken By Trees - "Only Yesterday"

The Republic Tigers - "Buildings & Mountains"

The Submarines - "Brightest Hour"

Vampire Weekend - "Mansard Roof"

"Sometimes, when one person is missing, the whole world seems depopulated."

You know how sometimes you wake up and before your feet even hit the floor you have this sense of impending doom about the day? You dread taking those first steps to the shower because you just know that no matter how hard you scrub with the scrumptious sweet pea suds and pretty pink loofah the hint of stagnant melancholy will linger about you for the next 24 hours. You know the kind of day I’m talking about…those crappy days in grade school when your best friend was absent and you had to eat your lunch all by yourself…the day that nobody was standing at the bottom of the monkey bars in awe at your latest trick or waiting to catch you if you should fall.

Yep…everyone’s had that kind of day and at 30, as ridiculous as it seems, I’m having one today.

I’m missing my person. My person who laughs at all my stupid jokes and thinks I’m far more hysterical than I actually am. My person who seems to make colors brighter, songs sweeter and hours shorter. My person who surprises me for absolutely no reason at all when I don’t even deserve it; my person who can, without a word, just look at me in that knowing way that says “Me too” or “I’m right here and going nowhere” and let me know without a shadow of a doubt that I am loved. My person whose laugh permeates every molecule of air around us enough to seep into my pores and give me the warm fuzzies all day; my person who has come to feel like a missing corner piece to the puzzle of my life…my person who plays an integral part in completing the big, crazy picture on the lid of the box. My person with a million and one stories to tell that I know I’ll never grow tired of and the person I want to write new stories with. My person who looks through patient eyes and sees me so much better than I could ever see myself; my person who admires my strengths and tries their best to overlook my weaknesses…my person who teaches me something new and interesting every day whether it be about myself, the world or some random fact from out of nowhere…my person who is so amazing and solid that they make me want to be a better person. My person who makes everything easy and new. My person who has the inner fortitude to match their outer strength and who lives their life to the fullest regardless of circumstance. My person who lights up the entire room when they enter and who leaves behind a darker, empty space when they exit. My person who constantly leaves me in awe at how remarkable they are…my person who is all the wonderful things that I adore about so many people I love all rolled into one. Yep, I’m missing my person today…my noble, striking, extremely complex and challenging enigma of a person that makes every single moment of every single day better.

So, as I sad sack around today missing my person, wallow with me while listening to these:

Rosie Thomas – “Since You’ve Been Around”

Nizlopi – “Without You”

U2 – “With or Without You”

Citizen Cope – “Sideways”

Jewel – “Near You Always”

LeAnn Rimes - "What I Cannot Change"

Joshua Radin – “The Fear You Won’t Fall”

Dave Matthews – “Oh”

The Weepies – “World Spins Madly On”

Ben Taylor – “How Can I Tell You”

Crystal Gayle – “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”

Avril Lavigne - "When You're Gone"

America - "Lonely People"

Corinne Bailey Rae - "Like A Star"

Leona Lewis - "Bleeding Love"

Damien Rice - "Delicate"

Don McLean - "And I Love You So"

Ben Harper - "Another Lonely Day"

Au Revoir Simone - "Sad Song"

Incubus - "I Miss You"

Dusty Springfield - "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself"

Phantom Planet - "Lonely Day"

Norah Jones - "The Nearness of You"

Adele - "To Make You Feel My Love"

Alicia Keys - "No One"

Jack Johnson - "Better Together"

INXS - "Never Tear Us Apart"

And I'm really only as sad as I am today because overall...
