"I can understand all that you are, I can even take all that you’re not ..."

As I’ve mentioned more times that is probably necessary, Rachael’s BRILLIANT album A Record in Two Parts: Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart dropped yesterday and I’ve been busy listening to it on repeat ever since. I was so busy falling in love with it in fact that I was too preoccupied to make mention of it yesterday but today I give you three of my favorite tracks. Choosing an absolute favorite would be like choosing between children or between ice cream and chocolate so I won’t go there but suffice it to say that I adore her still…maybe even more than before.

According to Rachael, her “record in two parts” is two halves that create a whole picture of the beauty and pain associated with complicated human relationships and unfortunately the often times subsequent collapse. “Elephants is much more intimate. It’s about being willing to take a risk even if it’s not going to end up well. Teeth is like rediscovering your backbone after you’ve gone through the loss.” I’ve said before I’m a huge believer in the right song, right time theory of life and for me, Rachael’s music always seems to come to me just when I need it most as if to say “I’m here with you experiencing the same thoughts and feelings, joys and pains as you are and you’re not alone.” For me, this latest release feels as if she’s torn a page out of my personal life journal this year and set the words she found to music. This couldn’t have come at a better time for me and hopefully others will feel the same way.

Enjoy these songs and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE buy the album. And I cannot say enough times that if get the opportunity to see her live, I IMPLORE you to do so…it’s an amazing experience that you won’t forget. Check her tour dates here.

Rachael Yamagata – “Don’t”

Rachael Yamagata – “Brown Eyes”

Rachael Yamagata & Ray LaMontagne – “Duet”

You can listen to “Faster” courtesy of Spin.com as well…I think it’s my favorite track from the Teeth portion of the album and one that I played for my ex over the phone last night. He didn’t enjoy it as much. Pfft. Wonder why? :)

i love love love the new album, and i just saw her in concert last night at the largo here in LA... she was aaaamazing. she had a five piece string section for some of the songs and she looked just beautiful...

i love the duet with ray lamontagne, just makes so much sense musically... and faster is a great track... and accident has a very cool back-story to it... and elephants of course is the gorgeous song of the album... and only fault is great too... they're all great.

sharing the love.

I'd never heard of her until I started reading your blog... and I'm so glad that you've introduced me to her!

I'm listening to "Faster" while the others download and so far I love it... this is definitely an artist I need to get to know better.

Which song in the album is the one featuring Maria Taylor?

I could very well be wrong but just from listening I think she sings background vocals on "What If I Leave" but I will have to check the liner notes.

Great, thank you very much

Why are you phoning your ex?

We pretty much talk on a daily basis. I suppose that just comes with the territory after 10+ years of on again, off again though.

Thanks so much. I've been a huge fan of Rachael since a special person drew my attention to her some years ago. Sadly, my local amazon is still trying to import the album for me from the US (and hasn't been successful so far).
I've only been in time for your reupload of "Duet" but that one is just wonderful.

I'm the anonymous person who's already left a comment above. I've got an email today telling me that I won't be getting my copy for another two to three weeks. Is there any way you could reupload those Rachael tracks please? I'd really love to listen to them. No worries if not, but you'd make me very happy.
